popping是放克舞蹈和街舞中的一种风格，基本是借由肌肉迅速地收缩与放松的技巧，使舞者的身体产生种颤动的感觉，这种技巧称作「pop」或「hit」。舞者会以多种不同的动作和姿势来配合歌曲的节奏。popping舞者又被称为「popper」。

「popping」也可泛指几种相关的舞蹈风格及技巧，这些舞风与技巧时常融合在机械舞中，让舞蹈做出更多的变化。

一般认为这种舞蹈在1970年代时起源于加州弗雷斯诺，而灵感源自于锁舞 。

就像其他街头舞蹈一样，popping也常进行舞斗，参赛者在人群前面展现舞技击败挑战的舞者或舞团。这时就有机会见识到舞者在表演中不常出现的即兴动作，或做出与参赛者或观众的交互。

Popping is a street dance and one of the original funk styles that came from California during the late 1960s–1970s. First seen in the 1968 movie ''Chitty Chitty Bang Bang'' during a scene where actress and singer Sally Anne Howes acts as a music box doll, it is based on the technique of quickly contracting and relaxing muscles to cause a jerk in the dancer's body, referred to as a pop or a hit. This is done continuously to the rhythm of a song in combination with various movements and poses.
