欧阳氏是春秋时代著名的越王无余后裔区冶子之后。欧阳氏与区、欧氏同出一源，都是越王无余的子孙，而越王族之区冶子，则是距今2400多年前越王允常同时期。据熊君碑所记敺羊，敺羊即为区冶，古文尚书所记冶艳为阳，即为后来欧阳，欧阳氏最早出现在晋书的欧阳生，据唐宋时期雅言韵语书籍，唐韵及广韵所记，欧阳复姓出长沙，区姓从春秋至唐朝都是长沙十大姓氏之一，氏族志所记区姓望出渤海郡，《郡望百家姓》欧阳氏望出渤海郡，也是根据区姓之郡望来源。
