公元（英语：Common Era，缩写为C.E.），即公历纪元，又称西元，现今是国际社会最多国家采用的纪年标准，最初源自于欧洲等西方基督教信仰为主国家，以耶稣出生为纪年的开始，原称基督纪年（Anno Domini），现代学者及部分基于政治正确的人士为了淡化其宗教色彩而改称公元。

由于公元纪年的起点是公元1年，所以有学者认为21世纪应始于2001年，而非2000年。
