单词 Sacrament of the Altar
释义

Sacrament of the Altar

Eucharist

Sacrament of the Altar)

Eucharist

Sacrament of the Altar)
The Eucharist has been a key theme in the depictions of the Last Supper in Christian art,[1] as in this 16th-century Juan de Juanes painting.

The Eucharist /ˈjuːkərɪst/ (also called Holy Communion, the Lord's Supper, and other names) is a rite considered by most Christian churches to be a sacrament. According to the New Testament, it was instituted by Jesus Christ during his Last Supper. Giving his disciples bread and wine during the Passover meal, Jesus commanded his followers to "do this in memory of me" while referring to the bread as "my body" and the wine as "my blood". Through the Eucharistic celebration Christians remember Christ's sacrifice of himself once and for all on the cross. Uniquely, in the one prayer given to posterity by Jesus, the Lord's Prayer, the word epiousios -- which does not exist elsewhere in Classical Greek literature -- has been linguistically parsed to mean "super-substantial," and most literally interpreted as a reference to the Bread of Life, the Eucharist.
