" But you have no war-horse, " said Regin.

In King Alfs palace lived a very old man named Regin.

" Some day I shall do great deeds, Regin, " said Sigurd.

It looks like: " region" ; it's actually " regin" .

" Ask whatever you wish, Sigurd, and I will do it for you, " said Regin.

Regin smiled and answered, " Bring me the pieces, so that I can weld them together."

Regin was the greatest smith in the world. He made spears, swords, and armor such as no other man could make.

Regin was a very wise man and could play sweetly upon the harp and sing wonderful songs of heroes and their battles.

He made wonderful things of gold and silver, also, and Sigurd loved to run into the smithy and watch Regin at his work.

After this Sigurd spent part of each day with Regin, who taught him many things which a prince should know.

One day when he sat in the smithy, Regin told him stories of heroes who had fought many battles and had at last become kings.

Now Regin knew that a battle must be fought to win back his treasure, and he himself was not brave enough to fight.

One day Regin played upon the harp and sang wonderful songs to Sigurd, until the boy's eyes shone as he listened.

So Regin went to King Alf and said that he would like to teach Sigurd, and give him skill in making swords and armor.

The forest rang with the shouts of the children at their play, and often Regin heard the gay laugh of the young prince.

森林里回荡着孩子们玩耍的喧闹声，雷金经常听到年轻王子欢快的笑声。

Regin took the pieces of the sword and went into the smithy. When he had welded them together, he gave the weapon to the boy, saying, " This sword will never fail you."

雷金拿起剑片走进铁匠铺，雷金把碎片焊接在一起，把剑给了男孩，说道：“这把剑不会让你失望的。”

The next day Sigurd came to the smithy and said to Regin, " You have given me a great work to do. Now I have something to ask from you."

" Tell me now, Regin! " he cried. " What is the deed I must do? You know that I am not afraid of cold or hunger or pain! "
