外星生命指存在于地球以外的生命体。这个概念囊括了简单的细菌到具有高度智能的“外星人”。研究和测试关于外星生命猜想的学科被称作地外生物学或天体生物学。自从20世纪中叶以来，人类一直使用包括探测地球之外的电波、天文望远镜观测潜在的宜居行星等方法探测外星生命存在的迹象，但迄今为止并没有确切证据表明外星生命的存在。有人认为发现外星人的机率很小，也有很多人认为外星生命几乎必定存在。

古今中外一直有关于外星人的遐想，在各国史书中也留下不少疑似关于外星人的奇异记载。有人猜测古印度人、古玛雅人、古埃及人建造的发达古文明受到了外星生物科技的影响，更有人宣称曾目睹外星人或与之接触。伴随大量关于外星人的报导、科幻小说和电影的充斥，使得外星生命的传闻绘声绘色。

Extraterrestrial life is life that does not originate from Earth. It is also called alien life, or, if it is a sentient and/or relatively complex individual, an "extraterrestrial" or "alien" (or, to avoid confusion with the legal sense of "alien", a "space alien"). These as-yet-hypothetical life forms range from simple bacteria-like organisms to beings with civilizations far more advanced than humanity. Although many scientists expect extraterrestrial life to exist, there is no unambiguous evidence for its existence so far. The science of extraterrestrial life is known as exobiology.
