《申命记》是《圣经》全书也是《希伯来圣经》的第5本书。这本书含有对耶和华的百姓发出的有力信息。在旷野流浪了40年之后，以色列的子孙正站在应许之地的门槛上。在这个时候，摩西写下此书来阐述他们的前景；他们在约旦河的对岸会遭遇的困难和摩西向百姓提出最后训示。

The Book of Deuteronomy (from Greek Δευτερονόμιον, Deuteronómion, "second law"; Hebrew: דְּבָרִים, Devārīm, "[spoken] words") is the fifth book of the Hebrew Bible, and of the Jewish Torah. The Hebrew title is taken from the opening phrase Eleh ha-devarim, "These are the words..."; the English title is from a Greek mistranslation of the Hebrew phrase mishneh ha-torah ha-zoth, "a copy of this law", in Deuteronomy 17:18, as to deuteronomion touto – "this second law".
