毛鳞鱼 capelin or caplin, Mallotus villosus，胡瓜鱼目胡瓜鱼科的其中一种，与柳叶鱼同为常见的多春鱼。毛鳞鱼是在大西洋和北冰洋出现的小型被捕食鱼类。在夏季在冰架的边缘密集成群的吃浮游生物。更大的毛鳞鱼也吃大量的磷虾和其他甲壳类动物。特别是在毛鳞鱼的产卵季节，它向南洄游时，鲸鱼，海豹，鳕鱼，鱿鱼，鲭鱼，白鲸和海鸟都捕食毛鳞鱼。毛鳞鱼在2-6岁时产卵于海滩沙底，并具有极高的死亡率在产卵后的沙滩，雄性接近100％的死亡率。雄鱼达到20厘米长，而雌鱼则达25厘米长。他们背侧橄榄色，两侧遮光银色。

The capelin or caplin, Mallotus villosus, is a small forage fish of the smelt family found in the Atlantic and Arctic oceans. In summer, it grazes on dense swarms of plankton at the edge of the ice shelf. Larger capelin also eat a great deal of krill and other crustaceans. Whales, seals, cod, squid, mackerel, beluga whales and seabirds all prey on capelin, in particular during the spawning season of the capelin while it migrates southwards. Capelin spawn on sandy beaches and sandy bottom at the age of 2–6 years, and have an extremely high mortality rate on the beaches after spawning, for males close to 100% mortality. Males reach 20 cm in length, while females are up to 25 cm long. They are olive-colored dorsally, shading to silver on sides. Males have a translucent ridge on both sides of their bodies. The ventral aspects of the males iridesce reddish at the time of spawn.
