释义

Sensory cells

Dr Yu and Dr Pierce therefore searched those wings for likely looking sensory cells.

So you can damage the sensory hair cells in the inner ear or you can damage the nerves.

The mosquito's nervous system has almost as many sensory auditory cells as we do.

When certain sensory cells  are constantly turned on, they're quickly tuned down  so that they stop firing.

So, there are sensory cells that will analyze what has been delivered: Is it gaseous or is it solid?

This tells us something important, that sensory adaptation doesn't just occur at the level of the sensory cells themselves.

The basics of hearing involve structures that vibrate in response to these waves and excite sensory cells, generating signals that nerves transmit to the brain, where they're processed.

But if you're around a smell for a few minutes, those sensory smell cells get tuned down and stop firing.

If you want more sensitivity you can make bigger sensory cells to sample a lot of light but then you can't fit as many in your eye so you lose detail.

The job of a sensory cell is to convert these various kinds of energy into a form that the brain can  interpret into tiny electrical nerve impulses.

Sensory adaptation happens in many ways, in your visual system,   particularly in the sensory cells at the back of your eye  that actually detect light.

Crash Course

But how we experience our six major special senses all boils down to one thing: sensory cells translating chemical, electromagnetic, and mechanical stimuli into action potentials that our nervous system can make sense of.

43.This is accomplished in the sense organ by the sensory receptor cells, which are specialized neurons that are excited by specific kinds of sensory energy and give off neural impulses from their axons.

This is because the sensory cells in your inner ear tune down the sound from the concert and stop firing so that your sensory input can focus on the new thing that is not the background, your friend's voice.

When you detect loud sustained  noise, like say a jet engine nearby, there's a small muscle in  your inner ear that contracts and dampens the vibrations  reaching your sensory cells in order to protect your eardrum  and inner ear from damage.

Sensory receptor

Structure of human sensory system

In a sensory system, a sensory receptor is a sensory nerve ending that responds to a stimulus in the internal or external environment of an organism. In response to stimuli, the sensory receptor initiates sensory transduction by creating graded potentials or action potentials in the same cell or in an adjacent one.
