加布里埃尔·马塞尔（Gabriel Marcel，1889年12月7日－1973年10月8日）与沙特并列当代法国两大存在主义思想家，沙特将自己与海德格尔（Martin Heidegger，1889年9月26日－1976年5月26日）归为无神论存在主义者，而将雅斯培（Karl Jaspers，1883－1969）与马赛尔归为有神论的存在主义者。海德格与雅士培否认自己为存在主义者，仅说自己的哲学是「存在的哲学」。而马赛尔虽起初接受沙特封给他的称呼，两年后也正式否认了。马赛尔也是位享誉国际的剧作家、戏剧评论家和音乐家，他所创作的三十部的戏剧作品中，有多部在欧洲一些主要的剧院、大学的剧团及广播节目演出。而这些作品，常是他的哲学思想的演绎，将他对于生命的探索、哲学的省思反应出来。

Gabriel Honoré Marcel (7 December 1889 – 8 October 1973) was a French philosopher, playwright, music critic and leading Christian existentialist. The author of over a dozen books and at least thirty plays, Marcel's work focused on the modern individual's struggle in a technologically dehumanizing society. Though often regarded as the first French existentialist, he dissociated himself from figures such as Jean-Paul Sartre, preferring the term 'Philosophy of Existence' to define his own thought. The Mystery of Being is a well-known two-volume work authored by Marcel.
