乙炔，俗称风煤、电石气、电土，是炔烃化合物系列中体积最小的一员，主要作工业用途，特别是烧焊金属方面。

乙炔于1836年由英国科学家艾德蒙·戴维（Edmund Davy）发现，化学式为C₂H₂，有一个如下图所示的直线型结构：

乙炔在室温下是无色、极易燃的气体。纯乙炔是无臭的，但工业用乙炔由于含有硫化氢、磷化氢等杂质，而有一股大蒜的气味。乙炔的化学能主要贮存于它的三键中。

在摄氏400度以上， 乙炔会聚合生成乙烯基乙炔（C₄H₄）和苯（C₆H₆）。在摄氏900度以上则会形成炭黑。

碳酸钙（石灰岩）和煤炭是生产乙炔的主要原料。首先，碳酸钙会转化为氧化钙，煤炭则转化为焦炭。然后氧化钙和焦炭会发生反应形成碳化钙和一氧化碳：
