点心是糕饼糖品之类的体型较小但又有一定分量、味道好的（固态）食物，比零食正式。通常不单独地作为正餐。最初的定义是在略有些饥饿的时候食用的小食品，但现在其涵义也不限于此，凡是分量较小精巧的食物都可以称作点心。如茶点——在喝茶的时候吃的一些小食，比如糕点、糖果等。甜点即甜味点心。

点心可以专指粤港地区的风俗“饮茶”时进食的食物（英文Dim Sum，通常只指广式点心）。点心在中国各种菜系中都有，在粤菜饮茶中尤其发达，一般都是指放在蒸笼的包子及糕点。点心推出初期款式不多，通常只有大包、叉烧包、虾饺、烧卖及肠粉等。点心是区分于中国北方饮茶的一个重大标志，今日，中国南方饮茶的点心种类繁多，大致分为咸点及甜点，大部分点心都是热食，亦有小部分为凉菜。在北方菜系中，用面为主要原料的面点也是中国点心的重要分支之一。

Dim sum /ˈdimˈsʌm/ (simplified Chinese:点心; traditional Chinese:点心; pinyin:Diǎnxīn) is a style of Chinese Canton cuisine prepared as small bite-sized portions of food traditionally served in small steamer baskets or on small plates. Dim sum is also well known for the unique way it is served in some restaurants, whereby fully cooked and ready-to-serve dim sum dishes are carted around the restaurant for customers to choose their orders while seated at their tables.
