其首次发行时的版本名为《 密室：1942年6月12日至1944年8月1日的日记》（荷兰语：Het Achterhuis: Dagboekbrieven van 12 Juni 1942 – 1 Augustus 1944，英语：The Annex: Diary Notes from 14 June 1942 – 1 August 1944），并在1947年于阿姆斯特丹发行。英文版本《安妮·法兰克：一位少女的日记》（Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl）则在1952年由英国瓦伦泰及米契尔公司（Vallentine, Mitchell & Co.）及美国的双日出版社（Doubleday & Company）发行 ，其后即受到大众广泛关注，并且深受欢迎。并很快便被编剧家古德利屈（Frances Goodrich）与哈基（Albert Hackett）在1955年改编为剧本，并于1959年搬上大银幕，女主角安妮由当时年仅19岁的美国模特儿米妮帕金斯（Millie Perkins）饰演，最近一次的影视作品为英国BBC于2009年制作的电视影集，由当时同为19岁的英国女星艾琳肯德瑞克（Ellie Kendrick）饰演安妮。此书现在被认为是二十世纪最重要书籍之一。

The Diary of a Young Girl (also known as The Diary of Anne Frank) is a book of the writings from the Dutch language diary kept by Anne Frank while she was in hiding for two years with her family during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. The family was apprehended in 1944, and Anne Frank died of typhus in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. The diary was retrieved by Miep Gies, who gave it to Anne's father, Otto Frank, the family's only known survivor. The diary has since been published in more than 60 different languages.
