These lands were then known as the Danelaw. Subsequent years saw various battles and power transfers between the Vikings and the  Anglo-Saxons until the Norman invasion of 1066.

The Vikings had taken over several British territories and had expanded their rule from York to create the state of Danelaw. In this state, Danish laws and customs were observed.

Although historians believed Ivar the Boneless  died peacefully in Dublin sometime in the 870s, the Great Heathen Army marched on, conquering more  British kingdoms into the Norse state of Danelaw.
