农业是人类有目的地种植植物（包括菌类）或畜养动物，生产出有用农作物或牲畜的产业，被划分在第一级产业。广义之农业包括种植业、林业、畜牧业及渔业，而一般人所说之农业通常只指种植业。农业的产品一般会是食物、纤维、生物燃料、药物或是其他利用自然资源而来，可以维持或提升人类生活的物品。

农业属初级生产，为人类最大和最重要之经济活动之一。简单地说是人类运用其智能去改变自然环境，利用动植物的生长繁殖来获得产品，更进一步换取经济收益的一种系统。农业是人类定居文明兴起的关键因素，种植或养育驯化后的物种，可以增加食物，有助于文明的发展。有关农业的知识称为农业科学。农业史可以追溯到数千年前，农业的发展随着不同地区的气候、文化及技术有很大的不同。不过所有的农业都需要技术可以扩展及维持可以种植作物或养殖动物的土地。若是种植植物，一般就需要灌溉技术，不过也有些植物可以旱地耕作。动物畜养是个庞大的产业，约占了地球不被冰或是水覆盖的面积的三分之一。在已开发国家，一般是采取单一作物的集约农业方式，不过可持续农业的比例也在渐渐提高，包括朴门（Permaculture Permaculture）及有机农业。

In the civilized world, industrial agriculture based on large-scale monoculture farming has become the dominant agricultural methodology.
