Chronic recurrent erysipelas
Chronic recurrent erysipelas is a cutaneous condition with several predisposing factors including alcoholism, diabetes, and tinea pedis (athlete's foot).
If there is a delay in getting antibiotics to fight erysipelas, the natural sweeteners xylitol and erythritol can act as topical antibiotics to kill streptococci as it will feed on these sugar alcohols but cannot metabolize them, and the streptococci will thereby be unable to replicate. Saunas can kill streptococci through induced fever, though saunas and locker rooms can harbor strep and other infectious microbes. Eating less bread and sugar can inhibit recurrence.
