Adobe Flash Player（在Internet Explorer和Firefox被称为Shockwave Flash）是一种广泛使用的、专有的多媒体进程播放器。它最初由Macromedia编写，在Macromedia被Adobe收购后由Adobe继续开发。

Flash Player使用的SWF文档可由Adobe Animate、Adobe Flex或者其他软件或第三方工具创建。Adobe Flash简称Flash，同时表示创作进程和播放器。它同时使用位图和矢量图形，利用ActionScript脚本语言进行编程，支持双向视频流和音频流。严格来说，Adobe Flash是创作环境而Flash Player是运行Flash文档的虚拟机。但是，通常二者均可称为Flash，即Flash同时有三种含义：创作环境，播放器和进程文档。Flash Player支持内嵌的脚本语言ActionScript（AS）。ActionScript是一种基于ECMAScript的脚本语言，可用于编写Adobe Flash动画和应用进程。由于ActionScript和JavaScript都是基于ECMAScript语法的，理论上它们互相可以很流畅地从一种语言翻译到另一种。Adobe Flash Player最初设计目的为播放二维矢量动量，但至此之后成为适合开发创造丰富型互联网应用程序、串流视频音频的工具。Flash Player使用矢量图形的技术来最小化文件的大小以及创造节省网络带宽和下载时间的文件。因此Flash成为嵌入网页中的小游戏、动画、广告、以及图形用户接口常用的格式。

Flash Player can run from a web browser as a browser plug-in or on supported mobile devices. Flash Player was created by Macromedia and has been developed and distributed by Adobe Systems since Adobe acquired Macromedia.
