卡洛林王朝（法语：les Carolingiens，旧称Carlovingiens，中世纪拉丁语：Karolingi，又译加洛林王朝）是自公元751年统治法兰克王国的王朝。在此之前，其王朝成员以“宫相”的身分涉理王国朝政。在公元751年，卡洛林家族取代墨洛温家族，正式坐上法兰克王国的王位。在王朝其后的鼎盛时期，卡洛林家族在名义上复辟了罗马帝国，也即是开创了后世所谓的神圣罗马帝国。这使卡洛林王朝成为最为后人所记得的法兰克王朝。

起源于今日法国中部的日耳曼民族之法兰克人部落，在当时混乱不安的时代，只要有能力就极有可能出头。丕平就是在这样的情况下：本身有能力并得到军队的支持，于是推翻了部落中旧王，自行任命自己是新王。而就在此时罗马帝国的边境出现了外族伦巴底人的入侵，当时罗马教会的教皇就想出了一个彼此互利的点子：就是请丕平与罗马帝国的军队一同出兵攻打伦巴底人，若打胜仗则罗马教皇就会公开为丕平王进行加冕仪式，立他作王。

The Carolingian dynasty (known variously as the Carlovingians, Carolingus, Carolings or Karlings) was a Frankish noble family with origins in the Arnulfing and Pippinid clans of the 7th century AD. The name "Carolingian" (Medieval Latin karolingi, an altered form of an unattested Old High German *karling, kerling, meaning "descendant of Charles", cf. MHG kerlinc) derives from the Latinised name of Charles Martel: Carolus. The family consolidated its power in the late 8th century, eventually making the offices of mayor of the palace and dux et princeps Francorum hereditary and becoming the de facto rulers of the Franks as the real powers behind the throne.
