蒙得维的亚（Montevideo）是乌拉圭首都兼蒙得维的亚省首府，位于拉普拉塔河下游，濒临南大西洋，面积为530平方公里，人口138万（2000年6月），相当全国人口的一半。它是乌拉圭全国政治、经济、交通和文化的中心，乌拉圭的最大海港，也是乌拉圭的海上门户。

“蒙得维的亚”的名称源自葡萄牙语Monte vide eu，原意是“我看到山了”；蒙得（MONTE）是“山”，维的亚（VIDE EU）为“我看到了”。建于1726至1730年间，当时是西班牙人德萨瓦拉（Bruno Mauricio de Zabala）于1726年的圣诞节时在此创建军事要塞并安置了13户居民。

According to the 2011 census, the city proper has a population of 1,319,108 (about one-third of the country's total population) in an area of 194.0 square kilometres (74.9 sq mi). The southernmost capital city in the Americas, Montevideo is situated in the southern coast of the country, on the northeastern bank of the Río de la Plata.
