恐狼（学名：Canis dirus）是犬属已灭绝的一个物种，在更新世的北美洲非常普遍。虽然牠与灰狼有关，但却不是任何现存物种的直系祖先。恐狼与灰狼在北美洲一同生存了约十万年。牠是更新世大型动物的其中一种。约于一万年前，恐狼与大部份其他的北美洲大型动物一同灭绝。

恐狼的第一个标本是由Francis A. Linck于1854年沿美国俄亥俄河在近印第安纳州埃文斯维尔的鸽子河河口发现，而大部份的化石则在加里福尼亚州的拉布雷亚沥青坑中发现。

The dire wolf (Canis dirus, "fearsome dog") is an extinct carnivorous mammal of the genus Canis, roughly the size of the extant gray wolf, but with a heavier build. It evolved in North America and was the most derived species of Canis from that continent. Canis dirus lived during the Rancholabrean land mammal age of North America (240,000–10,000 years BP) and was among the many large carnivores and megaherbivores that became extinct in North and South America near the end of the Pleistocene epoch. Its ending is associated with the Quaternary extinction event.
