加拿大的行政区划是由10个省（Province）和3个地区（英语：territory；法语：territoire）所组成的。省和地区的主要不同的地方在于省是根据宪法法令所设立的，但地区是据联邦法律所设立的，所以地区由联邦政府直接管辖、省则是由各省所立的政府所管辖的。

跟联邦政府相比，省在某些花费的控制限度上来说有很大的权力，例如各种社会计划方面，如健康保险、教育、和工作保险。除了省政府所收的税之外，各省同时也获得联邦政府提供的转移支付来支付所需要的开销。

省议会为一院制，没有参议院，在宪制架构中相当于加拿大国会下议院。魁北克省议会叫作国民议会（法语：l'Assemblée Nationale），纽芬兰与拉布拉多省议会叫作议会或下院（英语：the House of Assembly）。省长为所占议席最多的党的领导者；育空地区也是如此。西北地区和努那武特的议会没有政党。地区领袖是由地区议院选举产生的。

In 1867, three provinces of British North America—New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and the Province of Canada (which, on the formation of Canada, was divided into Ontario and Quebec)—were united to form the new nation. Since then, Canada's external borders have changed several times, and the country has grown from the original four provinces to ten provinces and three territories.
