al-Zawahiri (Arabic:الظواهري‎, aẓ-Ẓawāhirī) is an Arabic surname or nisbah derived from name of the town of Zawahir, Saudi Arabia. The definite article "al-" is sometimes omitted. Alternate spellings include Dhawahiri, Dhawahri, and Zawahri.
