Wetting transition

The macroscopic parameter characterizing wetting of a solid (or liquid) surface with a liquid is the contact angle. Various contact angles can co-exist on the same solid substrate. A wetting transition corresponds to a certain change in contact angle. Wetting transitions occurring on either flat or rough surfaces should be distinguished.
