西部大猩猩（Gorilla gorilla）是为人熟悉的大猩猩。

西部大猩猩可分成两个亚种，即西部低地大猩猩（G. g. gorilla）及克罗斯河大猩猩（G. g. diehli）。

大部份西部大猩猩都是属于西部低地大猩猩，数量约有94000头。而克罗斯河大猩猩的数量则少于300头。
