水彩画是用水调和透明颜料作画的一种绘画方法，简称水彩。
由于色彩透明，一层颜色覆盖另一层可以产生特殊的效果，但调和颜色过多或覆盖过多会使色彩肮脏。水干燥得快，所以水彩画不适宜制作大幅作品，适合制作风景等清新明快的小幅画作。颜色携带方便，所以可作为速写，搜集素材用。
与其他绘画比较起来，水彩画相当注重表现技法。成功的水彩画除了要掌握水分和色彩，也必须掌握如何仅用水跟薄薄的色彩来表现质感和量感。水彩因为颜料的透明性，导致作画步骤与水粉截然不同。
水彩的画法通常分『干画法』和『湿画法』两种。干画法是在前面的基本干后再进行画，一般可以画出很多层次。湿画法则是一气呵成，因此不同的笔触的墨彩相互渗透，有一种类似于中国画的效果。
