脇差
脇差（也称脇指） 。刃之长度30cm—60cm。日本武士平时与太刀或打刀配对带于腰间，是一个备用武器，平常不使用，是当作为主兵器的长刀（太刀或打刀）损毁时才使用的。
一般情况下对武士而言，太刀或打刀在格斗中与脇差一般不会同时使用，传说中日本第一的宫本武藏用的二天一流亦非使用脇差，而是右手大太刀，左手小太刀。
此外脇差也是准许一般百姓、市民、商人以及其他非武士身份的人随身携带的自卫武器。因此在许多古代的抗暴事件中，带头的侠客使用的就是这种武器。
