Free radicals are atoms or ions that have a single unpaired electron. TED-Ed(视频版) These molecules have unpaired electrons, driving them to steal electrons from nearby cells and cause permanent damage to the inner ear. That’s because stress can increase levels of free radicals—atoms or molecules that have an unpaired electron, which makes them unstable and very reactive. And, in the case of addition polymerization it attacks the double bond and joins one of the carbons, while the other carbon is itself left with an unpaired electron.
Unpaired electron 不成对电子![]() In chemistry, an unpaired electron is an electron that occupies an orbital of an atom singly, rather than as part of an electron pair (paired electrons means all two spin states of the orbital specified by three quantum numbers n, l and m are fully occupied by two electrons). As the formation of electron pairs is often energetically favourable, either in the form of a chemical bond or as a lone pair, unpaired electrons are relatively uncommon in chemistry, because an entity that carries an unpaired electron is usually rather reactive. In organic chemistry they typically only occur briefly during a reaction on an entity called a radical; however, they play an important role in explaining reaction pathways. |
