Suddenly from a lumpy tussock of old grass some twenty yards in front of them, with black-tipped ears erect and long hinder limbs throwing it forward, started a hare.
The eponymous Pampas grass is found in that South American grassland, while the equally eponymous Veldtgrass (Ehrharta calycina) is from South Africa, and in the New Zealand tussock grasslands, Chionochloa is common.
