特洛伊天体是指轨道与某大型行星或卫星轨道交迭的小型行星或卫星。在此情况下，后者现于前者与其环绕的中心天体连线L外的某个稳定的拉格朗日点附近的空域。已知的由拉格朗日推算出的连线外拉格朗日点共有两点：即L₄和L₅，皆是以连线L为底构造的等边三角形的顶点，在其伴随的天体的前后60°轨道位置，特洛伊天体的运行速度与其伴随的天体一致，所以两者之间并不会发生碰撞。

特洛伊天体最初用于指称分布于木星拉格朗日点附近的特洛伊小行星，而分布于其他行星的拉格朗日点附近的小行星则可被称为拉格朗日小行星。 在海王星和火星的拉格朗日点处即发现了这类小行星。另外，运行于土星的拉格朗日点上的两颗中型卫星也被称为特洛伊卫星。

In astronomy, a trojan is a minor planet or moon that shares the orbit of a planet or larger moon, wherein the trojan remains in the same, stable position relative to the larger object. In particular, a trojan remains near one of the two trojan points of stability – designated L₄ and L₅ – which lie approximately 60° ahead of and behind the larger body, respectively. Trojan points make up two of five types of Lagrangian points, and a trojan is a type of Lagrangian object.
