银河系（古称银河、天河、星河、天汉、银汉等。英语：Milky Way）是太阳系所处的星系。它包含1,000至4,000亿颗恒星（1–4×10）、数千个星团和星云，属于棒涡星系系统，还包含各种星际气体和星际尘埃。其直径约为100,000光年，中心厚度约为12,000光年，可见物质总质量是太阳质量的1400亿倍。太阳系是这个庞大星系的恒星之一，而我们居住的地球则属于太阳系中的一个行星。
