居家就业是透过网络与电话在家或其他场合办公，是一种利用远程信息技术的沟通模式，进行有关远程数据的访问运用行为，让工作也能在办公室以外的地方完成的一种便利的工作模式。

居家就业，源自于弱势团体向政府和社会诉求工作权的保障。透过网络等通信工具，家里就是办公室，在这样的小型办公室（Small Office Home Office）简称为SOHO。即使四肢麻痹瘫痪，无法独自出门，仍然可以在家工作，成为SOHO一族。

中文名称由飞鹰人负责人周二铭先生开始这个名词，称为「居家就业」，名称就是从（TeleWork和Telecommute）翻译而来。它的口号很响亮：Advancing work from anywhere! （任何地点都能工作）。「身心障碍居家就业」（Promoting Telework），身心障碍者会适合居家就业的原因就是在许多职场中，因为多重的障碍而造成就业困难，所以协助由于身体机能障碍，无法久坐或外出，不易进入一般性职场，但可在他人协助下，于家中工作之身心障碍者就业，就成为一个趋势。

According to a Reuters poll, approximately "one in five workers around the globe, particularly employees in the Middle East, Latin America and Asia, telecommute frequently and nearly 10 percent work from home every day." Today, as annual leave or vacation is seen as absence from the workplace rather than ceasing work, telecommuting is used by office employees to work while on vacation.
