Belfast




Belfast (/ˈbɛl.fɑːst/ or /ˈbɛl.fæst/; from Irish:Béal Feirste, meaning "mouth of the sandbanks") is the capital and largest city of Northern Ireland, on the River Lagan. At the 2011 census, it had a population of 286,000. 2015 council boundary reforms have increased the city of Belfast population to 333,841. Belfast was granted city status in 1888.
