Sungai Petani 双溪大年

Sungai Petani (abbreviated Sg. Petani or SP; Chinese: 双溪大年) is a town in the Kuala Muda district of the state of Kedah, in the northern part of Peninsular Malaysia. It is about 55 km south of Alor Setar, the capital of Kedah, and about 310 km from Kuala Lumpur. Sungai Petani is the second-largest city in Kedah after Alor Setar. Sungai Petani became an industrialised city in 1990 with Japanese factories and foreign companies during its first establishement. Sungai Petani with multiracial and multicultural community makes the town so unique in term of food, culture, religious building and mixed community. Place to go around the town is Pantai Merdeka, Gunung Jerai, Lembah Bujang, Sungai Merbok, and Penang Island just about 40km from Sungai Petani. Healthcare in Sungai Petani also provided by government-run hospital such as Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim, Pejabat Kesihatan Sungai Petani and private-run heatlthcare centre such Metro Specialist and Pantai Hospital. Shopping in Sungai Petani is available in Amanjaya Mall, Central Square, Petani Parade, SP Plaza, UpTown Baazar, Tesco Hypermarket and Giant supermarkets and Econsave groceries. Almost a million people living in Sungai Petani as the result of housing development in the town since 1980 with Taman Ria as pioneer residence park and large-scale residence park such as Bandar Puteri Jaya, Bandar Amanjaya, Bandar Merbok, and Bukit Banyan as the latest residence park.
