Streptose
L-steptose is a branched monosacharide similar to Apiose in structure. L-steptose has been found in amino-glycoside antibiotics.These antibiotics are known to carry unusual sacharides as part of their components. One example is steptomycin, a broad-spectrum antibiotic. streptomycin is known to have toxic effects in the kidney, as well as other unwanted side-effects.
