标准组织指的是以确立某个领域内的标准为目标的组织。在工商业界，确立一定的普适标准对于公司和组织闲的协作有着重要作用，例如零件组装等如果缺乏标准将导致产品适用性大幅下降。最早的工业标准可与追溯到1800年，当时亨利·莫玆利为螺丝车床的制造创建了标准。 1901年在伦敦成立的工程标准委员会（Engineering Standards Committee）是世界上最早的国家级标准组织。 在一战之后，德国和法国等其他国家也出现了标准组织。
