异步电动机（即感应电动机）接在频率为f的电网上运行时，转速n与电网频率f之间不存在同步电动机那样的恒定的比例关系。同步转速和转子转速之间有转差，转差率通常介乎3%到10%。如果转子转速高于同步转速，则变成发电机。

An induction or asynchronous motor is an AC electric motor in which the electric current in the rotor needed to produce torque is obtained by electromagnetic induction from the magnetic field of the stator winding. An induction motor can therefore be made without electrical connections to the rotor as are found in universal, DC and synchronous motors. An induction motor's rotor can be either wound type or squirrel-cage type.
