日冕（英语：Corona，拼音：rì miân）是太阳大气的最外层（其内部分别为光球层和色球层），厚度达到几百万公里以上。日冕温度有100万摄氏度，粒子数密度为10m。在高温下，氢、氦等原子已经被电离成带正电的质子、氦原子核和带负电的自由电子等。这些带电粒子运动速度极快，以致不断有带电的粒子挣脱太阳的引力束缚，射向太阳的外围。形成太阳风。日冕发出的光比色球层的还要弱。

日冕可分为内冕、中冕和外冕3层。内冕从色球顶部延伸到1.3倍太阳半径处；中冕从1.3倍太阳半径到2.3倍太阳半径，也有人把2.3倍太阳半径以内统称内冕。大于2.3倍太阳半径处称为外冕（以上距离均从日心算起）。广义的日冕可包括地球轨道以内的范围。

The Sun's corona extends millions of kilometres into space and is most easily seen during a total solar eclipse, but it is also observable with a coronagraph. The word "corona" is a Latin word meaning "crown", from the Ancient Greek κορώνη (korōnè, “garland, wreath”).
