岛根县（日语：岛根県／しまねけん），南界广岛县，北临日本海，是个比较偏远的山区县份。此县人口稀少，在6,708.23 km²的土地上，只居住692,991人。农田只占总面积的1/15，工业发展也较缓慢。但这土地却是日本古文化的发源地之一，在日本最古老的史书《古事记》和《日本书纪》中就有不少记载。丰富的文化遗产和诸多有关日本建国的神话故事，使它成为一个令人向往的旅游观光县。县都设于松江市，另重要城市有出云市。最争议的是该县的行政范围包括了竹岛（韩方称独岛），该县在2005年3月16日为庆祝竹岛纳入该县的100周年，成立竹岛之日，引起了韩国的反感。

Shimane Prefecture(岛根県,Shimane-ken) is a prefecture of Japan located in the Chūgoku region on the main Honshu island. The capital is Matsue. It is the second least populous prefecture in Japan, after its eastern neighbor Tottori. The prefecture has an area elongated from east to west facing the Chūgoku Mountain Range on the south side and to the Sea of Japan on the north side. It is divided into the Izumo Region in the East, the Iwami Region in the West and the Oki Region, a small group of islands off the northern coast. Most of the cities are near the shoreline of the Sea of Japan. Izumo Taisha in Izumo City is one of the oldest Shinto shrines in Japan.
