北极红点鲑，为辐鳍鱼纲鲑形目鲑科的其中一种，为温带鱼类，分布于北大西洋区，包括斯堪地那维亚半岛、格陵兰、冰岛、英国、加拿大魁北克至美国缅因州淡水、半咸水及海域，本鱼通常背部颜色较深,为褐色或绿色，侧边是颜色较淡，腹面灰白，侧面与散布粉红色到红色斑点，最大的斑点通常沿着侧线分布，且大于瞳孔，胸鳍边缘、腹鳍、臀鳍具有一个狭窄的白色边缘，有时尾鳍也有，帆质齐的雄鱼成鱼色彩艳丽，尤其在腹侧与胸鳍具橘红色到鲜红色，体长可达107公分。 本鱼在群上有陆封型及降海型，前者栖息在溪流、湖泊，后者会进行洄游，栖息在沿海，主要以昆虫、软件动物、甲壳类、鱼类等为食，为重要的食用鱼，适合各种烹饪方式食用。

Arctic char or Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus) is a cold-water fish in the family Salmonidae, native to alpine lakes and arctic and subarctic coastal waters. Its distribution is circumpolar. It breeds in fresh water, and populations can either be landlocked or anadromous, migrating to the sea. No other freshwater fish is found as far north; it is, for instance, the only fish species in Lake Hazen on Ellesmere Island in the Canadian Arctic. It is one of the rarest fish species in Britain, found mainly in deep, cold, glacial lakes, and is at risk from acidification. In other parts of its range, such as Scandinavia, it is much more common, and is fished extensively. In Siberia, it is known as golets and it has been introduced in lakes where it sometimes threatens less hardy endemic species, such as the small-mouth char and the long-finned char in Elgygytgyn Lake.
