Salmas (Azerbaijani: ﺩﻳﻠﻤﻘﺎﻥ , سالماس,Sālmās, Dılmaqan; also Romanized as Salmās and Salamas; formerly, Delemon, Dīlmagān, Dīlman, Shahpoor, Shāhpūr, and Shapur) is a city in and the capital of Salmas County, West Azerbaijan Province, Iran. It is located close to the Turkish border. At the 2006 census, its population was 79,560, in 19,806 families. The majority of the population is composed of native Azerbaijanis, align with some populations of Assyrians, Armenians, Jews and Kurds.
