道路交通标志是绝大多数国家在道路设置的标志以警告、禁止、限制、指示道路用户。起源自欧洲的国际道路交通标志试图打破各地语言文本不同造成的隔阂。修订前的《1968年11月8日道路标志与号志公约》附件将道路交通标志分成七类：

Traffic signs or road signs are signs erected at the side of or above roads to give instructions or provide information to road users. The earliest signs were simple wooden or stone milestones. Later, signs with directional arms were introduced, for example, the fingerposts in the United Kingdom and their wooden counterparts in Saxony.
