北泰恩河（North Tyne）发源于苏格兰边境，基尔德水库以北。在抵达赫克瑟姆前穿过基尔德森林和贝灵汉姆。

南泰恩河（South Tyne）发源于坎布里亚郡阿斯顿，穿过哈特威斯特和海登桥。其发源地与蒂斯河及威尔河的发源地接近。流经英格兰和威尔斯地区第二大杰出自然风景区北奔宁山。

The River Tyne /ˈtaɪn/ is a river in North East England and its length (excluding tributaries) is 62 miles (100 km). It is formed by the confluence of two rivers: the North Tyne and the South Tyne. These two rivers converge at Warden Rock near Hexham in Northumberland at a place dubbed 'The Meeting of the Waters'.
