知情权知情权(Right to know),由于美国1960年代的劳工运动和环保运动而兴起,尤其因为《寂静的春天》(Silent Spring)这本书掀起的环保运动、车诺比核事故等环境污染引起环保意识高涨、调查性新闻报导等新闻自由风行、近代公民权的提升等,知情权随之大幅发展。知情权最初主要提倡:个人有权利知道自己日常生活里接触到哪些化学药剂;后来发展成较广义的基本权利,牵涉到个人的生活、工作、到新闻媒体、大众传播等,并逐渐纳入美国联邦法和各州立法,还订每年9月28日为国际知情权日(International Right-to-Know Day)。

Right to know 知情权"Right to know", in the context of United States workplace and community environmental law, is the legal principle that the individual has the right to know the chemicals to which they may be exposed in their daily living. It is embodied in federal law in the United States as well as in local laws in several states. "Right to Know" laws take two forms: Community Right to Know and Workplace Right to Know. Each grants certain rights to those groups. The "right to know" was a movement made popular by Rachel Carson with her book Silent Spring. |
