Much like A and B, you either have the Rh antigens, in which case you're Rh positive, or your don't, and are Rh negative.

Rh positive
Much like A and B, you either have the Rh antigens, in which case you're Rh positive, or your don't, and are Rh negative. Unless the mother is treated with RhoGAM shortly after giving birth, she will begin to form anti-Rh positive antibodies. The possible blood types we could have are A, B, AB and O, and each one of these can be either Rh positive or negative. However, the mother has become sensitized by Rh positive antigens from that first child. That means she will start to form anti-Rh positive antibodies. Let's say that she is a pregnant Rh negative woman who is carrying an Rh positive child. But, the mother is now sensitized by Rh positive antigens that have passed through the placenta and into her bloodstream. In fact, the first pregnancy for an Rh negative mom and an Rh positive child typically results in a healthy baby. This is important when we look at a pregnant Rh negative woman who is carrying an Rh positive child. For example, you may have AB blood in the ABO blood group system, be Rh positive in the Rh system, as well as being K positive in the Kell system, and so on. This will be a problem if she ever becomes pregnant again with an Rh positive child, because her antibodies will reject the child. If she is not treated and becomes pregnant again with an Rh positive child, her child could develop Erythroblastosis Fetalis, also known as Hemolytic Disease of the Newborn. Most of the population is Rh positive, so they don't have the anti-Rh antibodies, which means they can accept either positive or negative blood. But negative types should stick to just the Rh negative blood. The only significant point is that because the antibodies are now in her bloodstream, she can never again come in contact with Rh positive blood or her antibodies will attack. However, if this woman gets a bad blood transfusion that contains Rh positive blood, her body will now be 'primed, ' or 'sensitized, ' to the Rh positive antigen and start to produce anti-Rh positive antibodies. During pregnancy, and especially during delivery, there is a good chance that the child's Rh positive blood can pass through the placenta and into the mother's bloodstream - somewhat like the blood transfusion we talked about earlier.

Rh血型系统 Rh blood group system(重定向自Rh positive)

The Rh blood group system (including the Rh factor) is one of thirty-five current human blood group systems. It is the second most important blood group system, after ABO. At present, the Rh blood group system consists of 50 defined blood-group antigens, among which the five antigens D, C, c, E, and e are the most important. The commonly used terms Rh factor, Rh positive and Rh negative refer to the D antigen only. Besides its role in blood transfusion, the Rh blood group system—specifically, the D antigen—is used to determine the risk of hemolytic disease of the newborn (or erythroblastosis fetalis) as prevention is the best approach to the management of this condition. As part of prenatal care, a blood test may be used to find out the blood type of a fetus. If the Rh antigen is lacking, the blood is called Rh-negative. If the antigen is present, it is called Rh-positive. When the mother is Rh-negative and the father is Rh-positive, the fetus can inherit the Rh factor from the father. This makes the fetus Rh-positive too. Problems can arise when the fetus’s blood has the Rh factor and the mother’s blood does not. |
