A 1490 Italian reconstruction of the map of Ptolemy. The map is a result of a combination of the lines of roads and of the coasting expeditions during the first century of Roman occupation. One great fault, however, is a lopsided Scotland, which in one hypothesis is the result of Ptolemy using Pytheas' measurements of latitude (see below).[12] Whether Ptolemy would have had Pytheas' real latitudes at that time is a much debated issue.

皮西亚斯（Pytheas，古希腊语：Πυθέας ὁ Μασσαλιώτης，西元前4世纪）是一位希腊的地理学家和探险家，出身自当时的希腊殖民都市马西利亚（Massalia，现名为：Marseilles，马赛）。他在前325年时，出海探索了欧洲西北部。他的足迹遍及了大不列颠岛上大部份的区域。在历史纪录上，皮西亚斯是第一位记载极昼、极冠和日耳曼民族的人。他也用了地理上的想像力，成为第一个提出极北之地（Thule）传说的人，此外他还是第一位记述月亮会影响潮汐的人。

Pytheas of Massalia (Ancient Greek: Πυθέας ὁ Μασσαλιώτης; Latin: Pitheas Massiliae; fl. 4th century BC), was a Greek geographer and explorer from the Greek colony of Massalia (modern-day Marseille). He made a voyage of exploration to northwestern Europe in about 325 BC, but his description of it, widely known in Antiquity, has not survived.
