自割是一种当动物受到惊吓或遭受生命危险时，所采用的自保逃命方式，如壁虎断尾；螃蟹、章鱼断脚；蚯蚓断尾；以及竹节虫、蝗虫断脚等现象。大部分的动物在逃离危险之后，能够经过再生作用在一段时间内（或数次蜕皮之后）长出失去的部位或附肢，但重新长出的部位可能会比其他正常生长的肢体较为短小，或是在皮肤色泽上有所不同（如蜥蜴等）。

Autotomy (from the Greek auto- "self-" and tome "severing") or self amputation is the behaviour whereby an animal sheds or discards one or more of its own appendages, usually as a self-defense mechanism to elude a predator's grasp or to distract the predator and thereby allow escape. The lost body part may be regenerated later.
