物质滥用（英语：Substance abuse），也被称为药物滥用（英语：drug abuse），一个精神疾病术语，意指某个人过量使用特定物质（某种药物），或经由可能会伤害自己或是其他人的方式来使用。这是物质使用疾患的一种，当情况严重到某个人对这种药物产生心理或生理上的依赖，产生耐受性与戒断症状等，则称为物质依赖。

“药物滥用”这个术语不排除依赖性，但是另外一方面与非医疗情况用法相似。此术语有非常广泛的定义，与服用非治疗或非医疗的精神药物或者兴奋剂有关。几乎所有的定义都暗示问题用药的消极一面（与另外一种负责用药的见解相比）。其中的一些药物通常与下列物品有关，包括酒精、安非他命、巴比妥类药物、苯二酚、可卡因、安眠药、烟草和类阿片。使用这些药物除了可能会造成身体、社会和心理上的伤害，也可能会导致被刑事处罚，这两种都很大取决于地方审判。其他的药物定义落在主要的四个范畴：公共卫生定义、大众传媒和地方使用、医疗定义和政治与刑事司法定义。

Intoxicative inhalants are a broad range of intoxicative drugs whose volatile vapors or gases are taken in via the nose and trachea. They are taken by room temperature volatilization or from a pressurized container (e.g., nitrous oxide), and do not include drugs that are sniffed after burning or heating. For example, amyl nitrite and toluene – the solvent used in contact cement and model airplane glue – are considered inhalants, but tobacco, cannabis, and crack are not, even though the latter are also inhaled (as smoke).
