在建筑及土木工程中，建设（英语：Construction）是指组装与建筑建物的过程。大规模的建设需要人类的多任务合作才能完成。通常一个建设任务，要由专案经理来负责管理，也需要营建经理（construction manager）、设计工程师、建造工程师或项目建筑师的监督才能完成。正在发展建筑项目，进行土木工程的地点，称为建筑工地，又称建筑地盘、施工地盘，简称地盘。

建筑地盘的范围常有围板、铁丝网或者围墙所封闭，限制人员及物料、机械和车辆的进出。有物业管理管理员把守。出入可能要登记身份，以作保安用途。另进入工地需穿戴安全帽等安全用具，以保安全。
