Standardized test

Young adults in Poland sit for their Matura exams. The Matura is standardized so that universities can easily compare results from students across the entire country.

A test question might require a student to calculate the area of a triangle. Compare the information provided in these two answers.Area = 7.5 cm2Base = 5 cm; Height = 3 cm Area = 1/2(Base × Height) = 1/2(5 cm × 3 cm) = 7.5 cm2The first shows scoring information loss. The teacher knows whether the student got the right answer, but does not know how the student arrived at the answer.
