NetBeans是由升阳电脑（Sun Microsystems）创建的开放源代码的软件开发工具，是一个开发框架，可扩展的开发平台，可以用于Java，C语言／C++，PHP，HTML5等程序的开发，本身是一个开发平台，可以通过扩展插件来扩展功能。

在NetBeans Platform平台中，应用软件是用一系列的软件模块（modular software components）建构出来。而这些模块是一个jar档（Java archive file）它包含了一组Java程序的类别而它们实作全依据依NetBeans定义了的公开接口以及一系列用来区分不同模块的定义描述档（manifest file）。有赖于模块化带来的好处，用模块来建构的应用程序可只要加上新的模块就能进一步扩充。由于模块可以独立地进行开发，所以由NetBeans平台开发出来的应用程序就能利用着第三方软件，非常容易及有效率地进行扩充。
